A Shower of Michelin Stars in Spain for 2024
The Michelin Guide awarded 34 stars in Spain for 2024, distributed as follows: 31 restaurants received their first Michelin star, including six in Madrid.

As I anticipated for Madrid, the new lineup of SEVO, the excellent DESDE1911, the legendary Club Allard, and the new OSA (students of Andoni Aduriz) very deservedly received one star.
In addition, Santerra, which had fallen just short in the previous two years, has now reached a new level of quality. The sixth new one-star restaurant is TIKO, an authentic Japanese restaurant led by Japanese chef Tadayoshi Motoa, who until tonight was little known to the wider public.

With Club Allard returning to the Michelin orbit, Basque chef Martín Berasategui now holds a record 12 Michelin stars across his seven restaurants.

Another 12 restaurants received the Green Star for sustainability and strong commitment to local products.

The clear disappointment was that only one restaurant earned a second Michelin star: Venta Moncalvillo, located 19 km from the wine capital of La Rioja, in Daroca de Rioja, run by brothers Ignacio and Carlos Echapresto (tomorrow would have been their mother’s 70th birthday; they dedicated both stars to their parents).

It is a real pity that the inspectors did not recognize the extraordinary efforts of Albert Adrià and his restaurant ENIGMA.

Two restaurants that had attracted the most attention, Disfrutar and NOOR, have joined the ranks of Spain’s three-star restaurants.

An interesting detail:
Three Japanese chefs who stayed in Spain after their internships in Spanish restaurants have earned their first Michelin stars in Spain:
— Tetsuro Maeda, a student of Víctor Arguinzoniz, who opened his restaurant in the Basque town of Atxondo;
— Yoshikazu Suto in Barcelona;
— Tadayoshi Motoa in Madrid.
Another chef from Venezuela, naturalized in Spain and born to a German mother and a Lithuanian father, Walter Sidoravicius, earned his first Michelin star in Ibiza (Omakase by Walt).
